What is a Crown?
When teeth are extensively filled, they run the risk of fracture. A stronger form of restoration is a crown which acts like a thimble over the tooth. Well-made crowns need exacting work by both the dentist and a dental technician to ensure a perfect fit and good aesthetics.
Where they don’t show, crowns made from yellow gold are the least invasive and best tolerated restorations. Tooth coloured crowns are either made from white gold overlaid with porcelain, or increasingly from ceramics. Ceramics give a similar strength to white gold, but have more translucency and therefore a more natural appearance.
We have pictures of both in our reception area and can show you real examples. We have carefully selected a few different technicians depending on the quality of aesthetics our patients desire.
