Fillings

White Fillings

Modern filling materials mean that nowadays fillings can be natural looking as well as functional. White fillings can be used in almost all of the situations that silver fillings are used. When used in the correct situations white fillings can be as long lasting as silver fillings.

There is a slight chance that some people may be allergic to the metals used in silver amalgam fillings. If this sensitivity is proven then it may be best to replace the amalgam fillings with white ones.

Amalgam Fillings

Silver amalgam has been used to fill teeth for many years.

The material has been improved over the years and modern amalgam is very strong and durable and can be useful in situations where aesthetics are not important.

Root Fillings

Root canal treatment (also known as endodontics) is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth is infected through decay or injury. If the pulp becomes infected the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth and may eventually lead to an abscess.

If root canal treatment is not carried out the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be taken out. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection.

Root canal treatment is a skilled and time-consuming procedure, which can sometimes need two or more visits.
